AUTHOR INTERVIEW Q&A with A Crime Readers Blog

AUTHOR INTERVIEW with A Crime Readers Blog and Crime Author S C Cunningham

The Penance List is the story of 3 friends and a stalker. Tara, Helen and Josie meet every week for a catch up. However they are unaware that they are being watched. David is obsessed with Tara and his obsession soon turns creepy and dangerous. This was an interesting story that flits between the current day of the three friends, David and his background. Gruesome in parts and with a lot of sex scenes it is pretty fast paced and is an easy read that will keep you hooked until the end.

Therefore I’m delighted to welcome S.C Cunningham to my blog to find out more about the author behind The Penance List.

"Holy cow! This book is intense. It is everything that the synopsis promises and more. It's a psychological thriller with a dose of romance and a pinch of suspense.  SC Cunningham expertly weaves a tale that kept me on the edge of my seat and up at night! The story also has quite a bit of romance. It seems like everyone is getting some. The scenes are done well. I would recommend reading them in the quiet of a bedroom. Not in a busy coffee shop! Oh la la!

It was everything promised and more!!!"

'Why I write and what' by S C Cunningham

From a very young age I’ve always known that my job in life was to entertain. To drag folk kicking and screaming into a world of escapism, to situations they’ve never experienced before and have them championing characters, willing them on and punching the air with a “Yesss!”.  Whether via books, film or TV.

Having worked in the film industry, I write with film in mind. I have to feel, see, taste, smell, hear every scene. Like sinking into a hot bath and fully immersing myself into each moment.

Luckily, I’ve had a crazy accidental life which offers lots of fodder to pull storylines from.

The Penance List by S C Cunningham

In the first of the David Trilogy, Cunningham’s characters are gradually developed by transitioning between past and present.  I’m not usually a fan of this type of storytelling, but it worked in this instance.  The inner turmoil in the characters (especially the protagonist) is intense and keeps the reader engaged and rushing to read the next chapter.  This is a riveting psychological thriller that lures you in slowly and stuns you at the end.  Book 2 here I come.  Be warned that this book contains graphic and disturbing scenes.

BOOK REVIEW by Katies Book Cave Reviews

5 Stars Katies Book Cave Review of The Penance List by S C Cunningham

"What an unsettling, disturbing and downright sexy ride this book is. Blimey, I need a cold shower and a cocktail after that! From the first page, S.C Cunningham throws the reader in to the disturbing world that she has created between the pages. I don’t want to say anything about the plot as I found the brilliance of this book is best discovered in the relative unknown. The writing flows incredibly well and I quickly devoured the book, leaving me gasping for more. I found the characters to be wonderfully written, David especially. He’s a very sadistic and evil man who gets under your skin, at least he did for me.

This book had me looking over my shoulder one minute and gasping out loud the next. I didn’t know which way up my head was on occasions as I lost myself into this book. I’d advise to not read this book on public transport! "

Book Reviewer Lucy Hay speaks to Author S C Cunningham

Q.  What book do you wish you'd written?

A. Thats easy, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher Series. I adore Reacher, such a wonderful character. If I was a bloke I’d love to live his simple lifestyle – no baggage, traveling with just a toothbrush, credit card, great intelligence and the strength of an ox – awesome!
